I am looking for an opportunity to play college volleyball at a program that allows me the opportunity to contribute and compete at a high level. My experience and training have prepared me to compete at a top level. I want to do this while meeting the requirements of a demanding academic curriculum. My major will be veterinary science.
Early on, I had the privilege of participating in competitive organizations and in more than one sport. I am thankful for that. Growing up, I played travel soccer and volleyball. I juggled successfully that schedule until I got to 9th grade, when I chose to focus on volleyball. From soccer I learned awareness, developed the ability to use my peripheral vision and improved my motor skills. These are skills I transferred over to volleyball that make me a better player and more competitive. Another experience that made me more competitive is that I learned to play volleyball in an area where most players start to compete at 12 years of age. Since I started playing when I was in third grade, earlier than most other players, I have played up almost every year as a setter and libero.
Another reason why I am certain of my ability to compete at a high level is how I train. For the last three years, during the Summer, I have trained at two of the best clubs in the United States, Sports Performance, in Aurora, IL, and Orlando Tampa Volleyball Academy, in Longwood, FL. I have also trained at Borinquen Coqui, in San Juan, PR, one of the most successful volleyball clubs in Puerto Rico, where I was born. The training received at those three formidable clubs, complements well with the training and playing opportunities I get at Areyto Volleyball Academy where I have become an all around player. Additionally, I do strength training at Performance Edge, where I have been lifting for the last three years. Training hard has not been an obstacle to getting good grades. I have not neglected schoolwork and finished my Freshmen year with a 3.84 GPA.
To succeed I have to work hard on and off the court. I know that much will be required of me to play at the collegiate level. Knowing that I have to prepare now. I am determined to be ready and succeed.
