I love the game of basketball for many reasons . Besides giving me a second family, the biggest reason is that it taught me the values of perseverance and hard work at a young age. Growing up being the youngest child with four older brothers helped to reaffirm those values, I had to be tough if I wanted to keep up with them.
I started playing basketball at age 4 at the local YMCA. I became a part of a basketball family 3 years later when I joined my first all-girl YMCA team. We became so good that we eventually became an AAU team. Things weren't always easy for me in the beginning as I sat the bench a lot and didn't get much playing time. After many tears, I worked really hard and eventually became a starter for AAU, a starting freshman on my Varsity High School team and for the past 4 years a Team Captain on my AAU team. My coach now has me speak to his younger AAU teams to share my story and encourage them to work hard and never give up.
My goals for college are to get a great education and to find a basketball family. I would love to be part of a basketball program that will help push me to become a better player and one that I can rely on off the court as well.
