My name is Kassi Ward and I will be a 2017 graduate from Black Hills High School in Tumwater, Washington. My main positions are Catcher, Outfield and Middle Infield, but can play all positions except Pitcher. My goal is to attend college and major in Sports Science to become a Sports Trainer or Physical Education Teacher.
I'm often referred to as a Sporty Spice or a Tom Boy. I am a girl who loves playing sports and being outdoors. The last couple of years I have reduced the number of sports I participate in as I move into more competitive leagues focusing on my longterm goals for fastpitch and basketball. My mom and dad say I'm well rounded in how I tackle life, but I say it is the challenge of doing something new and exciting whenever you can. Life is too short to sit back and watch. Jump in and enjoy the ride! I believe being active in your community is as important as being a good student or team player. There are lots of things you can help with to make a difference. Volunteering as a youth coach, Greyhound Adoptions, working at the Foodbank and Stuff the Bus activities are a few of my favorites.
At the end of my 8th grade school year I was presented with the Mark Sutterfield Citizenship Award from my middle school. This award means a lot to me because it is not a sport or academic award. It is an award for being a good student, contributing to my community, being a good friend to others and doing what is right even if it means it’s not the popular choice. I’m not the prettiest, the smartest or the most popular student. I wear what I like, say what I think and have to study hard to make my grades. I am who I am and I like that person. Liking myself makes it easy for me to be there for others. Receiving the Mark Sutterfield Award would not have been possible without the support and inspiration of my parents, teachers, coaches and friends. Each of them have given me the tools and positive influences to be the person I am today. I hope to be able to do the same for others.
Whether playing sports, striving for academic challenges or just hanging with family and friends, my motto is....Winners never quit, Quitters never win, I Choose to win and live life to the fullest.
