“Baseball is what gets inside you. It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard…is what makes it great.” (League Of Their Own.) This statement from A League Of Their Own is what draws me to baseball. The challenge of playing baseball never comes easy. Trying to overcome this challenge is why baseball is the sport I love. I embrace the idea of everyday trying to get better and improving myself. This drive has led me to excel on and off the field with my academics. Along with playing baseball, I am currently enrolled in the Commonwealth Governor’s School which is a highly competitive academic program that challenges me with my school work every day. Enrolling in this program has allowed me to become a better student and a better person. In becoming a better person, I have been working hard both on the field and off. As you will see, my work ethic is second to none. My size might not be very impressive, but my drive to become better is. When I’m on the field, I won’t back down from any pitcher or player. I have to win each battle in the batter’s box and in the field. Even though the play might be tough and might seem just out of reach, I will go all out for any ball that comes my way. This applies to playing hard on the field or working hard in the classroom, I will be a great fit for any team and any school that I go to and play for. My name is Colby Bestick and I am a sophomore at Chancellor High School in Fredericksburg, VA.
