Diego Longoria '23 Recruiting Profile

As a student athlete, I have learned the importance of being well rounded.     While I am passionate about all aspects of baseball, I have a strong desire to be both an academic and athletic scholar.  When I started middle school, I was told I would receive a presidential letter of achievement if I accomplished straight A’s through 8^th grade.  Once I achieved that goal, I created a new goal to strive for straight A’s in high school and be in the top 10% of my class.  I am as determined to achieve those goals as I am about playing on a college team.  My scholastic strengths are mathematics and science and I look forward to a career in Engineering, Finance or Business.   My baseball strengths are in leadership, communication and athleticism.   I am looking for a college that offers an opportunity for me to reach both of these goals.  In return, I am absolutely committed to working my heart out and contributing to the best of my ability to the success of the team.

As a freshman, I have achieved several important accomplishments – straight A’s, and making the Varsity team where I started at 1st Base and was in the regular pitching rotation.  My high school coach, Mr. Hooser, said that I am a team player who quickly became a team leader and one of the strongest communicators on the team.  My determination to keep the team motivated on the field and in the dugout caught my coach’s attention.        

People often comment on my positive attitude and determination.  I was raised to work hard, play hard, believe in myself,  and to be a team player as well as a team leader.  As Babe Ruth said “I swing big, with everything I’ve got.  I hit big or I miss big.  I like to live as big as I can.”
