Juniors State tournament
7/14/17 to 7/18/17
This is a letter that speaks to my character as well as team*****This came from one of our umpires at the state tournament. It speaks to the character of our young men**** Greg
Greg and Jonathan.
Wanted to take a moment to pass along some thoughts I have from this weekend’s state tournament in Abilene.
I was one of the umpires assigned to the Juniors division for the tournament, and I worked all of the games that involved the Kerrville Juniors team.
There was some great baseball played this past weekend, a lot of emotion out there. As the games progressed it really got more intense.
I just wanted to pass on my thoughts of your team. Your coaches, your parents and fans, but especially your players.
What an outstanding job your coaches did with these young men. I cannot applaud them enough, and they really need to be singled out.
Your team left Abilene without the trophy they were chasing but they left winners for the young men they have become.
I was staying in the same hotel as your team. Normally this is cause for great stress as an umpire, having to see a team in the hotel after they have lost a game.
I saw your kids on Sunday, after they had just lost to Alice, and several players stopped me, shook my hand, said thanks and asked if I would be on their Monday game. I replied yes, and they all said they were glad, that they thought I was fair. The compliments aside, I was just so impressed with how these young men responded to a loss and their sportsmanship.
I want to point out that every game, at introductions, your kids came to the plate and shook every umpires hand. No fist bumps, a firm handshake.
Your coaches, your parents, the fans, all yelled and cheered loudly. VERY loudly. But I did not hear one thing that was derogatory and unsportsman like.
As an umpire we must keep a neutral opinion of all teams, and it is hard sometimes when you have a team like the Kerrville All Stars. I really wanted your kids to win.
Please pass onto your coaches and parents that they should be very proud of their team and their young men.
I hope to see these kids at state next year in the seniors division.
