Personal Statement

My name is Anne Knowlton and I am passionate about the sport of volleyball.  The first thing I want to know about a particular college I look at is if it would be possible for me to play volleyball there. I will play volleyball at any division, and at a school of any size or religious affilliation, as long as it is a good school academically. If possible, I would like to attend college in the eastern half of the United States.  Sports are, and have always been, a major part of my life. I was captain of my high school team this year, and helped lead us to the state finals. I have learned so much about mental toughness and staying composed under pressure from playing in hundreds of matches.  As libero, I felt that I was part of the backbone of my team, and  the one they looked to in tough situations and under extreme pressure. I know the importance of staying positive on and off the court , and that the game of volleyball is as much mental as it is physical. I am an intense competitor and team player.  I can't stand losing even if it is just a drill at practice. I always push myself to improve and achieve more than I already have.  Nothing I have achieved in volleyball has been given to me.  My varisty and club teams are highly competitive, and I have had to work  hard for every position and minute of playing time I have recieved. Not a single ball touches the floor without a part of my body under it. I am determined, hard working and motivated. This year I set a new school record for digs in a season (518), first in the state for 2011-2012 digs in a season, and I am third in the state of Virginia  for all-time digs in a season.  I was also fortunate to receive All District Honors.  My speed, agility, athleticism, and ability to read are some of my assets.  I  will make a positive contribution to any team I am a part of. It is my goal to play at the highest level of volleyball that my skills will allow. I want to make a difference on my college team, and help my teammates win a national championship.  Being involved in community service activities such as the Amrican Red Cross and Salvation Army is important to me.  My intended major is biology/health sciences, and I would like to pursue a career in a medically related field.
