Lauren Miller '17 Recruiting Profile

My name is Lauren Miller.

I am a senior at Burkburnett High School in North Texas, and I am 5'11. I have been playing volleyball since I was 11 when I joined a youth club team with the YMCA called the "Lady Spikers". I fell in love with the sport. Initially, I stayed frustrated a lot because I was not very strong or good, but I did not quit. I went outside every day for hours on end hitting against the wall, passing to myself, setting the ball to the wall, anything to improve my skills. I knew I wanted to go further, so I joined the middle school volleyball team in 7th grade and still, I was no good. I continued to work on improving my capabilities through practice until my 9^th grade year…. That is when it all began to change for me. I started hitting the ball harder. I could set much better. I could pass the ball where it needed to go. Since then, I have continued to get stronger and better every day. I have so much passion for the sport; I am determined to continue to play at the next level. I know it will take a lot of work, sacrifice, and self-discipline, but I am willing and ready for the challenge.

What sets me apart from the other athletes is that I am always energized on and off the court. I am positive and encouraging toward my teammates, others, and myself. I am hard working, because things do not come easily to me. I like to laugh and keep my team excited, which helps us stay positive and push points. I am a team leader and a team player. I am respectful and coachable, and I like helping others.
