People ask me when I started playing the sport I love, and I really don't know. I assume it was the years of playing at the Rec Center. When I first started playing, it was a “just try to get it over the net” thing, nothing more. Once I started to really take in the concepts of the game, I realized that wasn’t it. It's sprinting to the ball, setting, jumping, hitting. It’s the team. My team is my second family. The relationships that develop between you and your teammates is something truly beyond words and I cannot express the love that I have for each and every girl on my team. It’s being part of something bigger than yourself.
People ask why that’s one of the things I focus on. Why I spend so much time in the gym. Why do I go through the early morning weekend practices, exhausting games and travel tournaments, the floor burns and bruises? Because I love it. Everyone has something they love and something they want to grow in. You can ask some people and they don’t have an automatic response. To me, it’s simple. Volleyball. My dad always told me “you're either getting better or you’re getting worse” This is true in life as it is sports. I try to take this approach with any goal I have and right now my short-term goals are maintaining good grades, being a well-rounded student athlete and playing volleyball at the next level for a great University.
My name is Cassidy Tanton. I’m a 2017 freshman at Dalton McMichael High School where I start as an OH on varsity. My life plan is simple. I plan to get better, not worse. And I’m looking forward to finding a college program that’s the perfect fit to get me there.
