Hello Coaches,
My name is Elizabeth Shore. I am a senior at Warrensburg High School in Warrensburg, Missouri. My desire is to continue to throw competitively as I further my education. I am going to major in Criminal Justice and would like to attend a university that will not only meet my educational needs, but also challenge me athletically.
I am looking forward to beginning my 5th season of throwing shot put and my second of throwing disc. I have had the privilege of being on the varsity team every year of my high school career. My coach, Lindsay Markworth, has been such an inspiration to me. She is not only a top notch coach who is qualified to coach at college level Division I, but she expects only the best from me which I am more than eager to give her. I have thrown using the glide technique throughout my career but wanted the opportunity to throw with the rotational technique. I discussed this with her at the end of last season and she was hesitant but agreeed to allow me to switch for my senior year. To show her my commitment to making this change I attended the Track and Field camp at her alma mater, Mizzou, to ensure that I had a firm foundation for the rotational throw and have been working independently to continue to improve. During some down time at camp I had an opportunity to throw the Hammer. Head Coach Halter was quite encouraging to me and told me that I should pursue it when I got to the collegiate level and I would love the opportunity to do that as well.
I not only compete as a thrower, but I also played volleyball from 8th grade through my junior year, where I was on the varsity team as a setter. I decided not to play again this year so that I would have more time to work on my throwing technique and studies.
My mother asked me where my “fun” classes were in my senior schedule since I am taking several honors classes for college credit and I told her my fun class is my weightlifting class. Coach Markworth and I talked to the weightlifting coach and convinced him to allow me to take the “boys” class instead of the “girls” class so that I could work more on strength training.
My friends and family describe me as an “all around go-getter” and takes every advantage to brag on my athletic and academic abilities. When I attained my PR of 39’10” last year at districts my entire extended family and circle of friends knew about it before the next thrower was even done with her throw. The same thing happened when I was awarded the “Outstanding Female Athlete of the Meet” award at the Belton High School Joe Falcon Relays last year.
Finally, I want you to know that I do my best in everything I do, academically, athletically and socially. I strive to be a role model for my sisters as well as other students in my community. I am a team player, not only in my sport, but as a person. I believe that in order for a person to be successful in life they need to have a healthy balance of school, sports and social responsibility. I was honored recently when the middle school volleyball coach asked me to coach one of the teams. It gives me the opportunity to not only teach the girls volleyball techniques, but also what it is to really be part of a team.
I would love the opportunity to visit with you about your program and answer any questions you have.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Shore
