Van Gonzales '17 Recruiting Profile

Hi! My name is Savana, but most people call me Van. I am a Senior at Buena High School in Ventura, CA and was a dual sport athlete for 11 years. I've been on varsity since my freshman year and Team Captain on this team for two years. My freshman and sophomore year we went undefeated and I was honored to receive the award for Defensive MVP for both my Sophomore and Junior year. I've also earned 1st Team All-League for 2016. 

In the past I've been selected as a participant in the ODP Region IV Winter Pool and identified for a U.S. Youth Soccer training at Pepperdine University. Coaches say that I am a natural athlete and that my greatest assets on the field are my speed, my instincts and a remarkable read of the game. On my U-19 team my pass completion rate was the highest on our defensive line. 

I also take my academics very seriously. I'm currently at a 4.56 GPA and in the top 5% in my class of 462 students. I've also been enrolled at Ventura Community College since 10th grade and will be receiving my Associates Degree in Social and Behavioral Sciences at the same time that I graduate high school. I am hoping to be the first in my family to attend a four-year university and study genetics or biomedical sciences. I have been a team captain for about ten of the twelve years that I have been an athlete, I learned that winning is easy, but what really matters is how you come back from losing, that's when true character comes out in the players and the coaches. In the end I hope to earn my way into a college that I can be proud of, and just as importantly a college that can be just as proud to have me :)
