Personal Statement

Ever since I was four years old, I would go out front and try and play every sport possible with the older kids on my block. I was strong and fast and realized I could keep up and if for some reason I couldn't, by the next time around, I would. My uncle would put me in inline skates for hours every day and it really gave me an incredible sense of balance and core strength. I played every sport possible and every coach I ever had viewed me as a fierce competitor. In basketball, I would have steals in the double digits every game. In softball, I played catcher and lived for running players down. I can't count how many dives I took to get the ball in volleyball. But my passion has always been soccer...since I was five years old. My nicknames were "Rock Star"  and "Bulldog" and I lived to attack the net and score. When I was 8 years old, my coach decided to put me as center back and I thrived. The backfield is mine. I strive to not let anyone get by me and make it my goal to always attack and dominate...every play! I've been extremely lucky to play on a winning high school and club team; to be a team captain and to go to CIF as a Freshman and Sophomore. I love soccer for the teamwork, friendships, commitment, sacrifice and leadership skills. I know you'll see the fire in me and agree I would be a perfect fit for your team!

My previous club coach sent this unsolicited email to a college coach after they contacted him about me:

Hello Jessica,

Thank you for the response regarding Casey Wilson. I have shared your camp information with Casey’s parents. In Casey’s profile she discusses her coach pulling her from an attacking roll and moving her to defense. That was me and it was the best move for her and the team. I had the pleasure of coaching Casey from U9-U15 and I will tell that, without a doubt, Casey was the first player on the team sheet. The team remained together from U9-U15 and won myriad tournaments, virtually every tournament we played (top flight brackets), as well as making it to the State Cup Finals. Laguna was a small club but we consistently beat the bigger clubs’ top teams (West Coast, Blues, Slammers, Surf). Players from that team have already committed to Indiana, Notre Dame, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, Santa Clara and more to come. Even with those players on the roster, Casey was still the first player on the team sheet. I cannot recall a single missed match for any reason. She never missed training, never suffered any injuries and soccer always came first with her and her family.

As a player, you will not find another like her. I’ve coached for 20 years and I have never been around any player whose heart was so huge and she would kill herself on the pitch week in and week out. She never had off games. She made mistakes but always recovered. She was always “on” and I honestly don’t think I ever subbed her off the pitch once. She is a beast in defense. Excellent speed. Fearless in the air. Quality ball distribution and a great eye for the game. She is always learning and getting better. She is a natural athlete.

From a personal perspective, I cannot recommend another player any higher than Casey. I have spoken to many coaches about other players but Casey will always be that one special player who not only brings it to every match but is an exceptional team builder. She is not cliquey. Everyone loves Casey and she treats everyone with respect. Her parents are sports parents and are very supportive of doing whatever it takes to help Casey along with her soccer career. She is also a great student.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you a little feedback on what a hidden gem Casey is. She could have played on any ECNL team but her loyalty to me and her teammates kept her with us. We ended up beating most all of those ECNL teams anyway. If you ever have any questions about Casey or if you would like to have a discussion, please let me know.

Good luck recruiting!

Sincerely,

Scott Miller

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
