Sophia Perlini '15 Recruiting Profile

When I joined my high school's crew team sophomore year, it turned out to be love at first stroke. I enjoyed everything from the earliest morning practice to the longest pieces. For me, crew struck a balance between physical and mental exertion; when my brain was tired from a long day at school, I could give it a break while I worked out at practice. Since my novice year, I have earned two varsity letters, rowed at Head of the Charles, won medals in many other regattas including Midwest Regionals for my N8+, and have become the strongest rower on my high school team. On and off the water, I strive to be the best rower and teammate I can be. I happily take every chance I get to row, erg, or strengthen myself. I am very coachable and am always open to suggestions about how to improve. On my team, I am always encouraging and helpful, doing everything from pushing my hardest in the boat to cheering on my team to strapping boats on the trailer or carrying oars for the other boats. I am incredibly successful in my academic endeavors as well. I am currently maintaining a 4.4 GPA, have scored a 32 on my ACT and a 2080 on my SAT, and take as many honors and AP courses as my schedule will allow. I am a proud member of the National Honors Society and was recently granted the Junior Class English Award. I plan to pursue Biology/Pre-Med in college and attend medical school. From there, I plan to not only use my talents to serve the patients in my practice, but to do mission and volunteer work in both my community and around the world. Whether it's on or off the water, I push myself to improve and excel, keeping an open mind and positive attitude through all my work, academic or athletic. I am the person who will run the extra mile, erg the extra 2k, and study the extra hour to achieve my goals. I believe these qualities make me a great fit for any competitive rowing program at a school that offers excellent academics.
