The big priorities in my life are my family, God, and school, but what I love to do is golf. My love for golf began at a very early age. My father taught me the basics and quickly my passion for golf soared.
During the off season, I practice several days a week. Once it gets nice outside, I hit balls in my yard or go to the golf course every day. My junior season I placed in state with 172 (36 holes). The year before that, I made it to sectionals with 95 (18 holes). My freshman year I went to regionals and finished with 123 (18 holes). Clearly my game has improved over the past 3 years, and I continue improving day by day.
One obstacle that I have overcome in my golf career is the fact that my school only has a boy’s golf team, and. I was the first female golfer in my school’s history. I have played many meets from men’s tees and I feel like that has pushed me to compete with bigger, stronger players than myself. I am very athletic which has helped me in learning how the golf swing works and gives me an advantage of being very coachable from being on other sports teams.
Through golf I have discovered I am a very focused and determined player. I always strive to improve myself both on and off the course. Leadership is also another skill I possess from both being a big sister as well as being a leader in my school. I love golf because it opens a whole new world of opportunities and it involves a lot of skill and practice to excel in it.
Not only do I have great athletic qualities, I am an excellent student and leader in my school. I have maintained a high GPA of 3.9 even with all of my extra-curricular activities. I hold offices in Key Club, Student Council, and National Honor Society, and I’ve had several lead roles in our musicals and plays. I am a member of the Long Point United Methodist Church and serve on several boards. My plate is very full, but I find myself exceeding goals I set for myself and completing all the tasks set before me.
Golf is my passion and I would love nothing more than to be part of a college team. I feel like I can have a huge impact on my team and really boost both scores and morale. I am the kind of person that once I set a goal, I stop at nothing to reach it. My goal is to be on a college golf team and strive to be the best that I can be.
