My name is Chelsea Velasquez, and I am a 5'4" basketball player from Trinidad, CO. Currenty, I am just starting my senior year and maintain a 4.2 GPA at Trinidad High School.
I have played basketball since I was about 4 years old but didn't start taking it seriously until my 3rd grade year when I started to play on a traveling team that my dad coached. From that moment on I knew that my dream was to play college basketball and that I was going to do everything within my power to achieve my goal. My dedication drives me to be the first one in the gym and the last one to leave. During the off season, I developed my own personal training program that consisted of dribbling, shooting, basketball drills, and strength and speed fundamentals training. I faithfully follow this program three to four times per week, working out as much as three to four hours per session.
As a freshman I earned a starting positioin on the varsity team, and as a sophomore I made All-Conference 1st team and helped lead my team to a League Championship qualifying us for Regionals. My junior year I was Tri-Peaks East Player of the Year and made All State 2nd Team; I also helped lead my team to another League Championship as well as District Championship, Regional Championship, and took 4th in the Class 3A State Tournament. When considering colleges, I am interested in a school with a strong academic program as well as a Physical Therapy program. I would like to remain in Colorado due to the high cost of out-of-state tuition. However, I am definitely open to out-of-state offers because I want to play wherever an opportunity is afforded to me. I am also open to Divisions 1, 2, and 3 offers. Seeing a good amount of playing time as a freshman is my ultimate goal because all I want to do is be allowed to play ball.
In the end no matter win or lose I always give God all of the glory. He gave me this gift and allows me to continue playing the game I love, so in return I always play with Him in my heart and mind. God bless.
