Going to college has been a dream of mine since as long as I could remember, but what I am going to do when I get there is where the real aspirations come into play. Determination and want crowds my thoughts, my dreams, and ultimately my life every single day. Going to college is not just a "this is what teenagers do after high school" action to me, but instead a pathway towards a life where I can make something of myself. Basketball has always been a passion of mine, but when I am not on the court or in the gym, I am neck deep in my studies or looking up the latest technological innovations. A master's in Computer Science is just the tip of the ice for the plans I have in mind. What sets me aside from others is my drive, my will, and my determination. "Brianna do understand this play" "Coach, No I don't understand it to a point of being comfortable. Mind running the play again?" Some may think this characteristic about me as a negative, but I cannot be one to remain silent. I am not one to shy away from asking questions or facing a challenge head on. All I am asking for is an opportunity to be taught the game of life.
I have played high school varsity basketball for 3 years and aau varsity basketball for 1 year. During these years, I have played multiple positions. Because both teams that I have played on has offensive sets that are identified as "small ball", I learned to play as a player that can be ball oriented or play off-ball. Offensively, my game ranges from being a ball handler to a scorer to a player that fits into any offensive set. Defensively, I never back down. Many may underestimate me because of my size, but I guarantee that at the end of the day credit will be due. I will admit I love offense and being given the freedom on the pretty side of basketball, but I know that is not enough. "Offense brings in the tickets, Defense wins the games" said by my high school coach at every practice and before every game.
I attend an early college high school. One of the ideas of coming to a school like Nuview Bridge is to challenge myself and put myself in the best position possible academically. I am taking college courses at Moreno Valley College and Mount San Jacinto College (Menifee Campus). Taking multiple college classes requires a high level of discipline; it requires dedication to having extended hours beyond the average school day, having much more rigorous classes than high school, and adapting to new and sometimes unorthodox professors. I have currently taken over 30 college units through high school; also I have had a least one semester of 10 and 11 units with a high school schedule as well. With a rigorous schedule I have been able to maintain a 3.7 GPA and have been awarded Honor Roll every semester throughout high school. I currently have over 80 hours and counting of community service with events involving children and interning for Congressman Mark Takano.
