I am a very active, social & athletic girl. I play 3 varsity sports and carry a minimum 3.5 GPA, currently 4.0!!. Although many coaches have tried to rope me into choosing one sport and playing travel ball and practicing that one sport year round. I refuse to do that as I really feel that being a 3-sport athlete gives me advantages & different workouts that are beneficial in other sports and they also give me an edge. I want to play sports at the next level and am open to any of them basketball would be my first choice and then golf and track & field and if given the right opportunity I may even go back to softball. I'm am always the fastest girl on the basketball & softball teams, for track I participate in the jumping events. I am open to any schools in the USA and at any division and financial aid is very much needed, whether it be academic, athletic or related to leadership. I want to get into a school where I can play and make a team contribution early. I want to pursue a career in sports psychology and possibly become a college or high school athletic director.
I am currently taking 1 Dual Enrollment college course & 3 AP classes as well as trigonometry and psychology & I currently have a 4.0 GPA with a 3.5 overall and am in the top 25% of my class. I am a member of the Leadership Council at BHS and a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. I am a 3-time invitee to the People to People Ambassador Program and was selected to attend the National Leadership Forum on Medicine in summer 2013. I was on the Prom Committee & I am a senior class officer. I plan to graduate with honors and to continue to play sports at the collegiate level.
I am very involved in sports, both at my school & in the community. I play Varsity Golf, Varsity Track & Field and Varsity Basketball, & the occasional powder-puff football game. I am so excited to say that I was selected to represent CA & the USA, on the USA basketball team at the United World Games June 2013 in Austria! Because of my love for sports, I help whenever I can. I have spent 4 years with Jr. All American Football “working the fields”, running the game clock & working the snack bar. The past 3 years I have coached a competition cheer team for the Pass Redskins & Lil Cougars and I assisted coaching a youth basketball team the last 2 years. Between this & my community service with the Miss Beaumont pageant I have totaled over 1000 hours of community service!
School & Sports is what inspires me and I hope that through academics & athletics I can inspire others to reach their full potential in sports and in life. I have been so inspired by my community that I have started a non-profit organization called “Shelby’s Locker”. I collect and redistribute gently used sports equipment to those in need. I want to help make sure that every kid who wants to be involved can, even if they don’t have the money and/or resources to buy the equipment they’ll need, & I hope that one day this organization will be able to provide scholarships as well.
I have had many role models in my lifetime & they have taught me to push through adversity, no matter what & to keep striving to be the best person, student & athlete that I can be. I am dedicated to working hard to graduate college & then go on to grad school. I want to make my family and my community proud and be able to give back. I truly believe that “Your talent is God's gift to you; what you do with it is your gift to God.” If you give me a chance I won't let you down :)
