Dear Coaches,
Softball is something that’s very important to me and I have worked very hard to get to where I am today, thanks to great coaches pushing me and my mom who supports me through everything. I am welled traveled and not afraid to leave the state of Arizona. I was born in Maryland, my mother lives in the Southwest and my father lives in the South. I have spent time on both sides of the country. I am open to playing softball in any state. I am an athlete! I will be an asset to any team and program because I know how to be a team player in every situation whether it is being a leader or follower or just cheering on my teammates. I am a hard worker that is eager to learn. To me hard work is something that I’m used to. I’ve had to work hard at everything I’ve ever set my mind to. I played 6 years of club volleyball at a very competitive level, traveled to regional and national tournaments across the country. As a result, I learned importance of being committed to my team, to weekly practices, private training session and being the best at my position. I became interested I in softball my freshman year in high school. I felt constrained athletically by the volleyball court, so a friend suggested softball. Once I set my mind to playing softball, I applied the work ethic I learned playing club volleyball to softball. I have made great progress and have made leaps and bounds perfecting my skills on the field and at the plate. The transition from volleyball to softball hasn’t been easy for me especially at a Division 1, 5A Conference High School but my athletic ability has allowed me to be a value add player to my team as I learned the game. Giving up is not an option for me! That little voice in the back of mind, tells me I have worked way too hard to let anything stop me from making my dream of playing softball at the college level come true. Softball is more than just something I do to pass time, it’s something that I love to do! Every sacrifice I’ve made has gotten me to this point, and I am excited about about the future. Softball has made me a stronger athlete and a better person overall. I love the game of softball and there’s nothing I wouldn’t do to make it to the college level. I know that I would be a great fit for any program because to me any opportunity I get to step on the field is a blessing and I never want to take that for granted.
Sincerely,
Sia A. Hornbuckle
