My name is Alvaro Perdomo, although I am from a small town that no one has ever heard of, I expect myself to become something great. I am an extremely hard worker, once I put my mind to it I would not stop until I have reached my goal. I am a determined, focused, and motivated student athlete. I believe I can be a great benefit to a college team as an athlete, a teammate, and as a leader.
I strive for great things, although sometimes things don't happen as they should, you learn a valuable lesson from them. Sometimes they workout great. My collegiate goals is to involve myself in the great things that go on in college. Another is to graduate from my future college with a bachelors degree and then be put in a job where I can attempt to repay my mother for all the help that she has done for me. In the sports area, my goal is to exceed the abilities of others, come forth with confidence in a race, be cheered on by countless people, and battle my heart out on that last straight-away. I want to become something great and I am working my body out now to get there later. I believe I can help make differences and help makes very positive things happen not only for myself, but the college I will go to.
Not only am I an individual runner, I am a huge team player. I am a great friend to those who accept me and a great motivator not only in athletics, but also in life, and academics. I am a great and easy going person all around, I like to keep everyone's mood up, I interact with everyone, and I am very motivating. Every 4x800 my teammates and I do, I am our anchor leg so not only is it my job to finish us off strong, but it is also my job to make sure every other legs are confident. I speak to them and motivate them, I check on them before I check on myself because my team is the most important thing to me. I will make sure they are confident and ready while I am still nervous and shaky, why do I do this? Because I have a morale that is family is first, which my team immediately becomes my family. I am always on the sidelines cheering on my teammates, even if they are the slowest person on the team. A team is nothing without teamwork, and we need to be together as one unit to be a team.
I believe what makes me different is significant in ways of building a future. I was not born with a natural talent to run rather, I was born with a natural talent of heart and determination. When I first started track in the ninth grade I was not the best runner, in fact I was the worst on the team. I only had a PR of 2:23 in the 800 my freshman year, I honestly did not believe in myself, I thought that I was just running because I have nothing else to do after school. That changed at the end of the year when I dropped down to 2:12. I became so dedicated to running that I literally ate, slept, and breathed track, it was all my mind was focused on, at the end of sophmore year I ended up running 2:06. It finally came time to really step up when junior year came around, I was so determined that I surprisingly became the fastest 800 runner on the team, at the indoor state meet I ran 2:02 placing 7th overall in our group and I became an insane anchor leg that people became mesmerized by because of this amazing kick I would use at the 200 meter mark of the race. I split a 2 flat at the outdoor state meet. I know that I have much more potential that I can unlock in my last year.
I have goals that I will not stop striving for, I am a great teammate and friend, and i have a talent of courageous heart and determination. I believe I have much to offer to the college that accepts me, I am a well rounded student. I will work absolutely hard and stop at nothing to achieve what I want, I am a great student and athlete and I plan to get far in life. I just need to meet the perfect college that will lead me into success.
