My love for swimming began when I was six year old at my first summer league swim meet. I can never forget the feeling of standing on the blocks for the 25 freestyle, the nervous twinge in my stomach, the racing heart beat, and the hunger to beat the swimmers to my left and to my right. To this day, this is the reason I swim. I am addicted to the race, to the unequivocal feeling of the cold water engulfing ones body as you dive in.
Swimming has taught me many things throughout my life, as a high school swimmer this past year, I had the opportunity to learn firsthand how swimming is a team sport as my small band of 9 teammates and I fought hard for a fourth place finish at the VISAA State Championships, where most teams had an average of 15 to 18 swimmers. In order to succeed in high school and college swimming, one must think about more than just ones own swims, you must be able to push your teammates in practice, to hold them to the highest standard, as well as focus on yourself. I believe this is what I can offer to your athletic program, and to your institution as a whole, a needed commitment to strive for the highest standard and not to settle for average.
