I want to become a productive member of my community and a role model for young golfers. My roles as an honors student and a student government leader help me reach these goals by strengthening my time-management, leadership abilities, and communication skills. My role as a member of the Ridgewood Spartans golf team strengthens my dedication to golf and commitment to my team’s success. I plan to attend a respected university and contribute to the golf team. My dream is to make golf my professional career.
My season awards for my freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior seasons included All-Conference First Team, All-Area First Team, and Academic All-Conference. On my Varsity team, I was my team's "Low 9-Hole Average" and "Low-18 Hole Average" player all 4 years. The past two summers I played in the Iowa PGA Jr. Championship in Ames, IA and the IJGA Chick Evans Match Play Tournament held in Itasca, IL along with numerous other tournaments on the Iowa PGA Junior Tour, the Illinois Junior Golf Association, and the Illinois Prep Tour. This past year I won the Iowa PGA Lexus Lujack Championship with a score of 68-75 as well as the Geneseo Maple Leaf Invitational with a score of 72 and was honored as the Moline Dispatch Newspaper’s first “Pacesetter” of the Fall sports season. Over the past two seasons, I won the IHSA Aledo Regional with a 73 and 71 and placed 6th and 3rd at Sectionals, making me a three-time state qualifier. Finally, I recently placed 5th out of 142 golfers, only one shot out of 1st, in the 1st Annual Boys Golf Midwest Invitational in Indiana with a qualifying score of 74 and a tournament score of 72.
I believe it is very important to contribute to my community. I am a member of the Youth Trumpet and Taps Corps, volunteering to play "Taps" at military funerals and at various community events. Recently I worked with my state representative to create Illinois House Bill 4432 which was signed into law on August 14, 2016, and excuses a student's absence from school when playing "Taps" for a military funeral. http://www.cambridgechron.com/news/20160819/alwood-high-school-student-inspires-state-law-watches-governor-sign-it
Finally, I just wrapped up my 2016-17 Illinois High School Association golf season and am already training for the Spring 2017 tours as well as the 2017-18 college golf season in which I hope to play and be successful.
