Hayden Jones '10 Recruiting Profile

I played baseball from ages 5 to 16 and did not start playing golf until the 9th grade. After playing for approximately 15 months, I made the varsity golf team at my high school, Dr. Phillips High School, in Orlando, Florida. I was the only underclassman (Sophomore) on a team comprised of 7 Seniors and was recognized as the most improved player on my high school team that year. I was also recognized by Golf Digest Magazine as the most improved Junior player in the state of Florida in 2007 (May 2008 issue). As a high school Junior, I was team captain and named MVP for my high school team and named 2nd Team All Metro Conference in the Orlando area. Three things I feel I can contribute to a college golf program that cannot be garnered from my golf resume are: (1) a strong work ethic; (2) a competitive drive; and (3) the ability to perform well under pressure. While I've had some formal lessons, my golf game has been largely self taught. I have had access to many talented players, both professional and strong collegiate players. Through discussion, observation and a lot of hard work, I feel I have come a fairly long way in a relatively short period of time. My work ethic has been a big factor. I am also considered a very competitive person who plays to win. I don't give up and have been able to turn poor or average rounds into good or great rounds simply from being a driven person. Finally, my experience with baseball has prepared me well for team sports and being able to handle pressure. I am looking for a collegiate golf program where I will be able to compete and play an integral part to the team's overall success. While my major is currently undecided, the overall academic quality of the school I attend is something that is also important to me. I have no real preference as to school size. Ideally I would be able to play at a school in the southeast or eastern seaboard; however, I am willing and able to look outside these regions if the school is a good fit for me.
