Playing basketball in college is my dream. While I certainly want to earn my college degree, I most definitely want to play ball (basketball being my first choice). Academically, I work just as hard (if not harder) in the classroom as I do on the court. I have had to overcome a learning disability that requires me to work much harder at certain subjects than other students. Despite that obstacle, I currently have a 3.41 GPA. In addition to playing two sports in high school, I also played trumpet for both band and jazz band my freshman and sophomore years, proving that I can handle multiple activities and still earn excellent grades.
On the court, I am often described by others as being the one working the hardest. Multiple coaches (from both basketball and baseball) have told my parents that I am "one of the most coachable kids they've ever seen." I do whatever my coaches ask of me, even if I don't always understand the "why." In the off season, I continue to work on my skills by attending open gyms, lifting to get stronger, practice shooting at least an hour every day, attend skills camps, and play in as many tournaments as I can. I played on the AAU Wisconsin Swing Koslowski team this past spring/summer and also played part of the season for the WI Swing Bredesen team.
I am now 6'8" and often described as the "gentle giant" because I have a quiet personality. I tend to be a silent leader, leading by example for my teammates. But on the court, I am a fierce competitor who will do whatever I am asked and whatever I need to do to win. I thrive on a team that works as a team and not as a group of individuals. I am excited for my Senior year and am working hard to finish strong.
My philosophy for success is this: I am motivated by both accomplishment and failure...not pride. If I fall, I will get up. If I am beaten, I will return. I will never stop getting better. I will never give up...ever.
