Attention Coaches: I was just notified that I was selected to the Oregon 4A All-State First Team. I also made Second Team All-State Tournament and Player of the Year for my conference.
Looking back at my high school basketball career, I never missed a game in four years and my teams won 89% of our games. We won four consecutive conference championships going undefeated in three of our four conference seasons. We finished 6th, 4th and won a championship at state. I'm looking forward to bringing my winning work ethic to a college team.
Whether I’m on the court or in the classroom my work ethic never wavers. Every day is a new day, and every day I try to better myself as a student, player, and as a person. As a student I maintain a very high GPA and constantly challenge myself by taking every Advanced Placement class my school offers. I have served in student government throughout my high school years and I am serving as ASB class President this year as a senior.
As a basketball player I work on my skills throughout the year. During the high school basketball season our coach prepares a practice plan that I work from. However, during other times of the year I have practice plans I have developed with the help of coaches/trainers and my dad. It involves a balance of ball handling, passing, shooting, defense and fitness. Travel ball gives me the opportunity to work on these skills so that I can come back a better player every year for my high school team.
As a player I have the ability to make plays for my team. Depending on the situation I know when I need to get my teammates involved, but at the same time I know when I need to get my own shot if my team is struggling to score. I am a very good shooter and I am not afraid to take big shots when the game requires it, I am also a strong ball handler and have the ability to find and hit the open player. But one of my strongest suits is as a team leader. I understand that as a point guard I need to be an extension of my coach on the floor, and I take that responsibility seriously. I am very coachable and do a good job conveying my coach’s game play to my teammates.
I always express my coach’s game plan in a positive way to my fellow players. I prefer to lift my teammates with encouraging comments rather than tearing them down with harsh criticism. I realize that to win games a team must have a positive energy on the floor in order to work well together.
After completing high school I would like to find a college that fits my academic needs and will also provide me an opportunity to play basketball.
