Hello, my name is DJ Harris. I started playing organized basketball when I was eight years old in a local, recreational league. This is when I developed my love and passion for the game of basketball. I played AAU travel basketball which helped to further the development of my basketball skills preparing me to play successfully at the high school level. I was a 4 year varsity player in high school.
On the court, I feel that I am a big time defender and that my game is very solid overall. I am a good finisher, a nice passer and a very unselfish player. I see my teammates and am effective driving to the basket.
My freshman year playing at the college level, allowed me to continue to learn and play fundamental basketball. By being allowed to demonstrate my basketball IQ, I was able to play my way into regular rotation coming off the bench as the sixth man. Due to family medical issues, I transferred to a local college so that I could be home to be with and support my family during final months of my maternal grandmother's life. By making this transfer, I sat out my second year of college and focused on academics.
In my spare time, I volunteer at local youth sports camps to help mentor and motivate kids in the game of basketball. Working with the kids reminds me of when I was their age. The energy, innocence and excitement the kids bring to the camp is an awesome experience and I always leave the camps feeling inspired.
My goal is to continue my academic studies and be able to pursue playing basketball at the collegiate level.
