My name is Darrien Mack and I finished my 2016-2017 season as a 4 year starting Senior at Southmoore High School in Moore, OK leading the 6A in total tackles!! I was also named an All Conference and All District 6A-II defensive player. I look forward to proudly graduate in May 2017.
I have always enjoyed sports as I have played at least one sport since I was 5 years old. As I grew older, it wasn't just about me enjoying the sport, but more so the passion and respect I have for the sports that I participate in. I have a level of dedication and commitment that most people my age do not possess.
For most of my life I was raised by a single mom and I saw how hard she and my dad worked to allow me the opportunity to play sports...as many as I wanted. The only rule...keep my grades up and don't quit. I started tee-ball at 5 and moved all the way through little league and continued to play baseball for my junior high and currently with my high school. I was Team Captain for many years in little league because the coaches saw a leadership trait in me at a young age. I have played short stop for many years and center field. I have wrestled for many years and have placed at Regionals and State. Wrestling is a sport that I enjoy and appreciate because it is an individual sport for the most part. I enjoy the team camaraderie as well, but I really enjoy knowing that I worked really hard as a wrestler. Football is my passion. My dad was a great athlete through junior high and high school and received offers to go to college playing football, but chose not to since I was about to be born. I respect him for that; however, he always reminds me to stay focused on school and the rest of your life will play out the way it is supposed to.
My academic goals for high school are to excel in the classroom and maintain my position as a role model to others. I would like to go to college on an athletic scholarship to assist my parents in paying for my education; however, I will attend college one way or another...because I know how important education is. My mom completed her Bachelors and Masters within a 4 year time frame while taking care of me and has always stressed the importance of education.
I have learned over the years by playing sports for so long, that there are going to be good days and bad days. There are going to be games/matches that you are #1 and some games/matches where you aren't. I am a very harsh critic of myself and every day gives me an opportunity to improve...it's how you attack it that makes the difference. I believe I have a very competitive, energizing, supportive, encouraging, and positive character. I have always been the "go to" person. I take it upon myself to help others when needed and encourage them to speak their mind when they feel something isn't right. I may not always agree with decisions that are made by my leaders, but I respect their position. Overall, I think I would make a great leader/member to any collegiate team because I am a hardworking, dedicated, and determined person.
