As I move forward in my search for the right college or university to attend, I spent time defining what I want to accomplish in the next four years. My primary focus will be graduating with an undergraduate degree in business or engineering. It will be a challenge to balance the demands of school, sports and and other parts of my life. Fortunately, as a three-sport athlete in high school, I was forced to develop effective time management skills. Secondly, I would like to play football because I have a real passion for it and believe I can play at a very high level. If I had the opportunity to continue to play football in college, there is no doubt that I would. Lastly, I would like to select a college that is a good community for me to learn, grow and find new friends. If I can attend college where I am a good fit academically, athletically and socially, then I will be able to achieve the goals stated above.
Throughout my sports career, I have been a part of some very good teams. This means that I know that a team effort is needed to achieve collective goals and win ballgames. I am a team player and will fulfill any role the team needs. As long as I can do my part to win then I am a happy teammate. Personally, I have many traits that make me a good candidate for a college football team. The first trait stands out when I play any sport - my athleticism. In high school I played football, basketball and lacrosse. Playing football in college will mean focusing 100% of my effort on being the best player I can be. I believe this will accelerate my maturity as a football player and allow me to have a greater positive impact on the team. The second trait is humility. I have learned not to boast about my athleticism. Instead I like to take a modest approach to my sporting achievements. However, being modest doesn’t mean that I am a quiet person, because I love it when my teammates do well and I celebrate with them. Because of my athleticism and sportsmanship, I am the team captain of the varsity basketball and lacrosse teams this year. I will be a leader to the best of my ability. To wrap up this question I would like to mention my final two reasons, which may seem obvious, but I think it’s important to mention them. First is the fact that I am a good student. I would never do anything to hurt my chances to play a sport at the collegiate level. This means that you can always depend on me to put my studies first and make good choices. Finally, I am a quick learner and I am able to quickly pick up changes, plays, defenses and roles. These are the reasons why I am a top candidate for any sports team.
I talked about many of the traits that make me different from other recruits in the previous section, such as my athleticism and academics, but I think it is my character that stands out. Growing up I was taught the difference between the right way to do something and the wrong way. I realize that you need to work hard to earn respect – whether it is in the classroom or on the football field. There is no shortcut! You may learn a lot of things in college, but I believe that doing things the right way throughout your life will bring success. It’s also important to give back to the community. I volunteer through my church and school and it has made me a better person. I bring a positive attitude that will be a game changer on and off the field.
