I have been playing field hockey for about half of my life now, and it has become a huge part of who I am as a person. Field hockey has helped me make friends, learn leadership and teambuilding skills, and how to communicate effectively with others. After my freshman year of high school, I was presented with a large decision to make. Girls soccer would be moving to the same season as field hockey; in the fall. I started playing soccer when I was about 4 years old, and I grew up playing with all of my best friends. These girls also played field hockey with me, but had an easy decision picking soccer over field hockey because they all played for as long as they could remember. I was in the same situation, being forced to make the same choice, but all of my friends decided to stick with soccer. I fell in love with the sport of field hockey, however, and was the only girl on my entire soccer team who decided to stick with field hockey. I loved it more than anything, even if it meant making new friends. I think this decision really helped shape my character. I believe I am a natural born leader who has the ability to play college field hockey because of my skill level, great amount of dedication, leadership ability, and academics.
