Dear Coaches,
My name is Jay Burton. I am a high school senior at University High School in Normal, IL. I have been looking into colleges where I could continue to build on both my education and athletic goals.
I am a left handed pitcher for my high school team and feature a couple different pitches, all with good movement and control with all of them. I am coming off UCL repair surgery after tearing the ligament during a game in our high school season last spring. Dr. Paletta, elbow specialist out of St. Louis performed the procedure, June 23, by using an internal brace to repair the ligament instead of taking the graft from the forearm to do the complete elbow reconstruction. Obviously there is no way to tell how I will return from this injury but I’m doing everything in my power to get back to full strength to make a full recovery and come back stronger than I was before. I have completed rehab with no complications and the arm feels great! The arm has begun to return to the pre-surgery velocity and while I still lack control, the feel has started to come back with each bullpen. My breaking stuff has even returned with almost sharper movement than before also with no discomfort in the elbow.
I was geared up for a great junior season and started strong before the tear about 5 starts into the season. I feature five pitches that can be controlled anywhere in and out of the zone:
4-seam fastball- 80- 82 mph
2-seam fastball- 79-80 mph with good arm side run and sink
Changeup- 72-74 mph with arm side fade
Curve- 73-74 mph late 11-5 sharp movement
Cutter/Slider- 73-75 mph that I run under the hands of right handers
My high school coaches are Steve Paxson and Josh Kauten and I’ll attach their info below.
I have a 3.8 GPA and a 25 on the ACT.
Any info you could give me about your baseball programs would be much appreciated. I understand that junior year is a big recruiting year and know that I have a very limited amount of time to show how I can perform and help a team during my senior season with junior season being shot due to the injury. Thanks for taking the time to read and consider this info and I look forward to hearing more about your programs.
Sincerely,
Jay Burton
